4.09 Radar interferometry

Radar interferometry new technologies (New InSAR)

The developed algorithms and procedures for high resolution InSAR DEM generation, DInSAR using ScanSAR data and PSInSAR will be implemented in the software suite ready for industry adaptation. Both commercial exploitation (eg mine and urban subsidence monitoring) and national benefit (eg landslide and flood risk management) are drivers for the project. It will generate an InSAR business model for use in commercial applications by private sector groups within the SI industry. This project will generate significant IP in the field of radar interferometry.

Aims

This project, a follow-on to Project 4.2, aims to
1. streamline the production of topographic maps from data collected using dual- or multi-band radar systems and TerraSAR-X satellite
2. develop innovative solutions to monitor ground deformation with high gradient or over large area. This component is to study DInSAR with data from radar satellite constellations to be deployed from 2007 for near real-time applications and the feasibility of a dual-band satellite solution. Research of this component will also focus on ScanSAR interferometry based on Envisat and ALOS ScanSAR data in which a single image can cover up to 500km by 500km
3. develop robust PSInSAR for non-urban environment and with small subset of radar images. This component of the project is to study the methodology in which all the pixels are treated as PS candidates so that all the ground features, as long as they are stable, can contribute to PSInSAR analysis
