Vision and Statement of Purpose and Operation

"... SPATIALLY ENABLING AUSTRALIA ..."

Vision - Make the CRCSI a world leader in spatial information applications that are affordable, useful and readily available to all – at any time and in any place.

Statement of Purpose - to create new wealth and benefits for the participants of the CRCSI, and for the nation, through research innovation and commercialisation; through educational activities; and through powerful collaboration that builds institutional capacity.

Operation - CRCSI brings together $100 million in cash and in-kind from its partners to identify the question of our future spatial information needs — who needs SI, in what form, and when — and to seek innovative solutions to these needs. The CRCSI uses the collective wisdom of a broad base of participants to accelerate the industry wide growth; generate intellectual property; seek efficiency gains for government; inform environmental management; and best position the research and education programs of universities and other institutions.

A key national initiative supported by the CRCSI is the Australian Spatial Consortium which seeks to "accelerate the unlocking of the potential of spatial information for economic, environmental and social benefit for Australia within key industries; and the development of tools, technologies and capabilities relating to the fundamental future needs of the nation."
