WA Location Information Strategy Approved

Implementation of the Location Information Strategy approved by Cabinet
On behalf of Landgate and the WALIS Office we are pleased to advise that State Cabinet has approved implementation of the Location Information Strategy.

Cabinet has approved the implementation of two Priority Projects: Statutory Approvals Tracking System (StATS) led by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, and Regional and Urban Scenario Planning led by the Department of Planning. A number of Strategic Initiatives have also been approved including Strategic Capture of, and Enhanced Access to, location information both led by Landgate. Funding arrangements have been referred to the Economic and Expenditure Reform
Committee (EERC) and Regional Development Council.

The following four key principles for the management of location information across the Public Sector were also approved by Cabinet:

  • Location Information is only collected once to avoid duplication and made readily available to support functions of Government;
  • Location information is consolidated and accessed in the most cost effective way through the Shared Land Information Platform;
  • All current and planned capture proposals of location information using Government funds will be provided by public sector agencies to Landgate in order to identify and prioritise in consultation with the relevant public sector agencies opportunities for strategic investment in the capture of this information; and
  • Benefits of government and industry research and development investment in location information and technology will be applied to create a competitive advantage for Western Australia and to support the State’s strategic needs – maximising the value of this investment for the State.

Next steps
The Program Coordination Team are now working through funding arrangements with the Department of Treasury and Department of Regional Development and Lands; and with lead agencies to put into place work plans for delivering the Priority Projects and Strategic Initiatives under the Strategy, as described in the Program Overview.
