Double Duty for Chair

VSC’s independent chairman Ollie Hedberg has taken on a second key leadership role in the spatial industry.

Besides his VSC activities, he has been appointed independent chairman of a new special interest group formed by Australia’s top IT organisation, the Australian Information Industry Association
(AIIA).

The group will operate as a national body hosted by AIIA’s Victorian branch and focus on helping and mentoring AIIA member companies to make greater use of geospatial information and services.

“Many people now recognise the growing interdependency that exists between the IT and traditional geospatial information sectors,” Mr Hedberg said.

“Most Australian governments have incorporated spatial technology into their IT policy plans while many IT companies are also realizing the value of visualising and analysing government and business data in a geospatial context.

“So it makes good sense to develop cooperative activities that develop and expand this cross dependency for the benefit of both the IT and geospatial sectors.

“Spatial information and its associated technologies are complex and the new special interest group will help AIIA members become more spatially aware and use them more effectively.”

He added that the group planed to hold events on a range of geospatial topics and would be active in responding to government spatial policy.
