LINZ considers going 'freemium'
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is considering a ‘freemium’ business model – where customers will access basic services for free, but pay for premium offerings – as a way of ensuring free public access to a multi-sourced database of land imagery, considered of national significance.
In this particular model, a basic imagery service would be provided at no cost. However, LINZ has said that “we do not intend to provide a premium imagery service, and we are open to solutions that wrap a commercial premium offering around our primary objective.”
