Australian Space Activities Survey 2011

Australian Space Activities Survey 2011
The Space Policy Unit (SPU) within the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) is developing a National Space Policy and is seeking additional information about the size and current activities of Australia’s space sector.  Last year the SPU commissioned a survey of Australian Space Activities and the data from the 266 organisations that responded has been used by the SPU in its work on the National Space Policy.  The executive summary of the 2010 study is available for your perusal here.

The SPU has commissioned a repeat survey in order to flesh out the 2010 results and to invite other organisations having Australian Space-Related activities to participate. They have engaged Asia Pacific Aerospace Consultants Pty. Ltd. (APAC) to identify Australia’s current space activities and conduct an economic assessment of the current value of space to the Australian community and associated trends as input to the National Space Policy development.

“Current space activities” includes the use of space derived data in products and services.  The spatial information industry is heavily involved in these space activities and this is your opportunity to make a contribution towards informing future Australian space policy.  APAC has prepared a survey to collect your information which can be accessed via the following link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Australian_Space_Activities_Survey_2011

The survey takes 15-30 minutes to complete.  We strongly encourage you to fill out this survey.  Even if space-related activities are only a small part of your organisation’s overall activities it is very important that they be captured to ensure the full breadth and depth of the spatial information industry’s space activities are recognised as a significant part of the Australian space sector.

Please complete this survey by Thursday 21 April 2011 to ensure your input is included in the report to Government.
If you have any questions please contact APAC consultants Kirby Ikin on (02) 9293 3872, 0402 132 546 or kikin@apac.com.au; or Bill Barrett on (02) 9293 3873, 0407 505 388 or bbarrett@apac.com.au
