This research extends aircraft path planning, data capture and flight assist concepts to optimise flight management and planning for large scale infrastructure aerial surveys.
The outcomes can be applied to both highly automated manned and unmanned aircraft to reduce costs and optimise data capture.
Demonstration of advanced 3D guidance and control of UAV platform flight tests were successfully conducted in March 2014.
Gimbal system flight tests and data collection were also conducted for evaluation of in-flight feature extraction, active guidance and other vision based processing steps.
This project resulted in novel path planning discovery and includes more sophisticated 3D aircraft control capabilities as compared to the previously developed CRCSI FAS system. A provisional patent has now been filed for P3D and an Expression of Interest will be called early in 2015.
