Professor Matthew Wilson

Matthew Wilson is the CRCSI-LINZ funded Professor of Spatial Information in the Geospatial Research Institute at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. He is a geographical information scientist with broad interests in novel applications of GIS to natural hazard assessment and mitigation. Areas of specialisation including the spatial analysis and modelling of flood risk, surface water dynamics and catchment hydrology and the assessment of the potential impacts of climate change. His work integrates data from field measurements and remote sensing with mapping data of built infrastructure and society and deals with issues of data uncertainty in hazard assessment.
