Prof Clive Sabel holds joint positions at the European Centre for the Environment and Human Health, Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, and the University of Bristol, UK. His work has focused on applying GIS & spatial methods within the health field, in particular concentrating on investigating the life-courses of individuals, and how this affects their social and environmental exposure. Major research contributions, broadly in the fields of GISc (Geographic Information Science) and spatial epidemiology, centre around 5 interlinked research areas: developing spatial analysis techniques and methodologies; disease cluster detection; the quantitative spatial analysis and interpretation of health data; investigating the role of population migration or mobility in environmental exposure studies; and investigating the Modifiable Areal Unit Problem (MAUP) in ecological studies.
