Julia Mitchell is the SBAS Testbed Program Manager at the CRCSI. In this role, Julia manages the SBAS testbed demonstration projects across Australia and NZ spanning ten industry sectors – aviation, rail, road, utilities, resources, spatial, maritime, agriculture, construction and consumer. The project is being conducted in conjunction with Geoscience Australia, Lockheed Martin, GMV and Inmarsat. The SBAS testbed projects are testing three technologies in the Australian and NZ region from June 2017 to January 2019; the SBAS Legacy L1, SBAS Dual Frequency Multi-Constellation (DFMC) and Precise Point Positioning. The SBAS DFMC signal will be the first test of its kind worldwide. Julia aims to have many successful demonstrations of these technologies, showing higher accuracy GPS is beneficial for the wider Australia and NZ community.
Most recently, Julia has worked as a Spacecraft Systems Engineer on large communication satellite projects for the SES-16 and Jabiru-1 spacecraft for SES and NewSat respectively. In prior roles, she has worked as a Structures and Graduate Engineer for Qantas for their Boeing 737 fleet and as an Aerospace Engineer for Aerospace Concepts (now the Shoal Group).
Julia has completed a Master of Science in Astronautics and Space Engineering from Cranfield University and combined Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace) with first class honours and a Bachelor of Science (Physics) from the University of New South Wales.
