James McIntosh is joining the Project 4.5.1 research team as the newest recipient of a CRCSI Top-Up scholarship for his PhD. His research topic will be in the area of sustainable transport options through integrated land use and transport planning.
He will be use satellite imagery and GIS to understand the interaction of existing land forms and proposed change in urban renewal brought about by new transport infrastructure.
The objectives of the research are
• the strategic integration of sustainable transport infrastructure and the surrounding land use to facilitate a broader transport infrastructure catchment and to facilitate urban renewal and growth using spatial analysis of land use and integration.
- spatially analyzing the agglomeration benefits of sustainable transport infrastructure, and designing a framework to capture these benefits for reinvestment to increase the economic development business case for its introduction
- to use spatial analysis to optimally locate Transit Orientated Development (TOD) to enable increased economic viability of new sustainable transport infrastructure
- to facilitate increased private investment in sustainable transport infrastructure to further the sustainable transport objectives of improving social welfare accessibility/mobility; increasing economic activity; and reducing environmental impacts from transport related pollution
