<< Go Back

As we move swiftly towards the end of 2011, I would like to provide you with an update or where we are with Program 3.

Program 3 Board

I have mentioned previously Mike Bradford has now taken on the role as Chair of Program 3 and the Board has also aligned ourselves to the ANZSM so Sue Gordan (LINZ) and Allen Smart (SIBA President) have joined to provide input from New Zealand and the Industry’s perspective.

It has been great to get the industry feedback in relation to the Market Place and the research gaps that are now being identified via the Alignment Study and the ANZSM Demonstrator Projects.

Also joining the board is Steve Meekin from DIGO, whose new GIS Strategy is very aligned to the P3 research program and the Market Place development.  The Board have a big year ahead of them with the Research Agenda being a priority.

New Appointments

Proposal 3.08 has now been approved by the CRCSI Board which allows Program 3 to bring on Prof. Geoff West from Curtin University as the Science Director and Dr David McMeekin (as lead researcher). Both have an excellent background in the Security and ICT and Usability which is the backbone of our program.

David has already commenced work on the Science Review which is one of the outputs for the Alignment Study and Geoff officially commences in the new year.  We will include an update of his activities in the next Blog.

Alignment Study

The first report on the Alignment Study is complete and has been approved by the P3 Board. The review has identified that Governance is still lacking across the majority of initiatives and systems are immature with respect to the automation of integration processes.  The next phase will look at these areas more closely to see where we can provide additional research and capability to resolve these issues.

The Phase 2 proposal will go the P3 Board in late January and we are hoping to commence in March.  Please note that upon reading the report you will note that Qld and NSW are missing. I am happy to announce that these questionnaires are complete and we are currently analysing the results and including them in the next report.

Australian New Zealand Spatial Market (ANZSM)

The ANZSM Demonstrator was recently demonstrated at Spatial@Gov (Canberra Nov 2011) and SSSC(Wellington Nov 2011).  All development for the demonstrator is due to complete by the end of the year and the team would welcome any feedback.  I have included a copy of the Wellington presentation that was delivered by the Project manager, Cathy Crooks. Anyone is welcome to log into the Market place and provide feedback to the team (http://spatialmarketplace.net.au/).

Governance

Governance of the Market Place and Supply Chain Systems are distinctly lacking.  If anyone has any interest in performing research in this area, Geoff or I would be very keen to discuss your ideas. Please email either Kylie.Armstrong@Landgate.wa.gov.au or G.West@Curtin.edu.au with your ideas.
