The School of Surveying & Spatial Information Systems is one of the schools of the UNSW Faculty of Engineering - the largest engineering faculty in Australia. The School offers two B.Eng. degrees, one in Surveying and the other in Geoinformation Systems. From the very beginning the School has placed a great emphasis on Research, initially in the fields of Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Survey Adjustments and Remote Sensing.
Since the mid 1980s the focus has changed to high accuracy GPS technology and applications, and since then has expanded to Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and wireless positioning systems in general. In addition new research strengths have developed in radar remote sensing, Lidar, signal processing and GNSS receiver design. The current research areas can now be placed under the general umbrella of "Navigation and Earth Observation".
ANZLIC is the peak intergovernmental organisation providing leadership in the collection, management and use of spatial information in Australia and New Zealand.

The Department of the Environment designs and implements the Australian Government’s policies and programmes to protect and conserve the environment, water and heritage and promote climate action. The environmental framework is being delivered under four pillars:

Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute

Anna University established the Institute of Remote Sensing (IRS) in 1982 with the funds provided by TamilNadu Government. Over the years, the infra structural facilities have been gradually built-up using development grants mainly from Ministry of Human Resource Development, University Grants Commission, Federal Republic of Germany, Department of Space, Government of India and Department of Agriculture of Government of TamilNadu. At present, the Institute is rated as one of best in the Country in the areas of Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System and large-scale mapping. The Institute functions as an autonomous unit of the Anna University governed by an executive committee headed by the vice-chancellor. The Tamil Nadu Government provides the recurring grants for maintenance. As an externally assisted project, the Federal Republic of Germany has provided assistance worth 7 million DM towards equipment, exchange of staff and for conducting a 4-year engineering Under Graduate programme " B. E. Geoinformatics " which is the only program of its kind in this country. The institute has about 2400 sq.mts. of built-up space for various laboratories, equipped with sophisticated equipment worth Rs. 150 million.

Future Position X (FPX) is a cluster with focus on the innovative use of Geographic Information: an independent arena for demonstration, development and marketing of services and knowledge.
There are a host of complex spatial and geomatic challenges that face the world, from developing truly precise and ubiquitous positioning, to provisioning high quality satellite and airborne imagery to anyone, anywhere at any time.
Empowering the researchers and connecting them with the users will expand the world's innovative capacity in this fascinating area of science. Collaborative networks are one of the key means to realise these greater benefits.

JAXA - Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency
"On October 1, 2003, the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan (NAL) and the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) were merged into one independent administrative institution to be able to perform all their activities in the aerospace field as one organization, from basic research and development to utilization. The independent administrative institution is the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)."

Open Geospatial Consortium
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international industry consortium of 468 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available interface standards. OGC® Standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services and mainstream IT. The standards empower technology developers to make complex spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications.
The Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was established on 8 November 2012, through the merging of two CAS institutes: the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (IRSA) and the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE).
As a scientific research institute, RADI was established as a major initiative of CAS “Innovation 2020” Program and “one positioning, three breakthroughs, five important fostering directions” project ( the “one, three, five” project for short ). The consolidation will pool the advantages of both CAS institutes in the fields of remote sensing and Earth observation to promote the development of cutting-edge scientific research, and to meet national strategic demands.
The strategic objectives of RADI are to explore leading technologies in Earth observation and the mechanisms for acquiring and distributing remote sensing information. RADI will focus on the construction and operation of major Earth observation infrastructure and the air-space-ground integrated Earth observation technology system. RADI will enhance its capacity for providing resource-environment spatial information at regional and global levels by establishing a digital Earth scientific platform, therefore building itself into a comprehensive, world-class research institute.

Wuhan University is a key university directly under the administration of the Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China. It is located in Hubei Province's capital Wuhan known as "The thoroughfare leading to nine provinces".
The university dates back to Ziqiang Institute, which was founded in 1893. Later, it changed its name several times before it was named National Wuhan University in July 1928. By the end of 1946, the university had six colleges: the colleges of liberal arts, law, sciences, engineering, agriculture and medicine.
The new Wuhan University was founded on August 2nd, 2000 as an amalgamation of the original Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electrical Engineering, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping, and Hubei Medical University.
